May's Tip, Trick and Trend Report

Tip: Usually when discussing a “tip” in our blog we are referring to a helpful hint or inside information.  This month, we are referring to a “tip” in the form of gratuity.

Your budget has been set, the venue and vendors have been chosen.  Your wedding day is fast approaching and everyone has been very supportive throughout the planning process.  How do you say “thank you” to all those who have helped along the way?

Tipping is a voluntary expression of your appreciation for a vendor’s service, so it’s up to you whether to tip.  While tipping is not required, in many circumstances you are expected to give a gratuity. Ultimately, you, as the customer, make the decision about who receives a tip and the quantity. Here are some guidelines from as well as WeddingPaperDivas to help you decide.

Trick:  Wedding favors allow your guests to take home a little keepsake to remember your special day. They are usually displayed on the table or near the door, but who says you can’t make your wedding favors the centerpiece?

Creatively displaying centerpieces can be a great way to save not only money, but time and space.   Martha Stewart Weddings has some great ideas for wedding favor centerpieces.  You can use candles, potted plants, or tiny gift boxes stacked on a cake platter to display as your centerpiece.  Even if you spend a little more on the favor itself, you will be saving money in the long run by eliminating a centerpiece.  Not to mention, what would you do with all those leftover centerpieces anyways?

Trend:   A trend and a tip in one: Signature cocktails are not only trendy but they can help that budget savvy bride stay on track.  Instead of offering your guests an open bar at your wedding, keep the drinks limited to beer and wine, champagne for that special toast, and a signature drink that reflects your wedding day.

You can choose a signature drink based off the colors and theme of your wedding.  That down-home bride and groom can offer their guests some Spiked Sweet Tea, while the urban couple can opt for a more traditional cocktail, like an Old Fashioned or a classy Manhattan. has great examples of a variety of signature cocktails.  The possibilities are endless, so grab a drink and let’s toast to your future!
